Azadi Mahotsav’ to end with ‘Meri Maati, Mera Desh’ campaign | India News

NEW DELHI: On the anniversary of “Quit India Movement” on August 9, the government will launch a 21-day campaign — “Meri Maati, Mera Desh” — as a culminating event of the “Azadi KA Amrit Mahotsav”.

In yet another push to BJP’s nationalist agenda, one of the hallmarks of the concluding event on the Independence Day will be paying tribute to the ‘Veers’ (martyrs) through ceremonies at even panchayat, village, block and state levels. A memorial is to be set up at every place with the names of the martyrs inscribed.
The final event will be held at “Kartavya Path” in the national capital on August 29 or August 30 in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to be the chief guest.

While paying homage to the martyrs, people would take the five-point pledge, specified by PM Modi earlier, and individually or collectively take selfie while taking the pledge.
Panchayats have also been suggested to hold felicitation ceremonies for honouring freedom fighters and families of the deceased freedom fighters, retired defence personnel, para military forces and police and families of the bravehearts of who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Youth volunteers and other people would collect ‘mitti’ (soil) from each panchayat/village and bring them to block level. From each block, ‘mitti kalash’ (urns carrying soil) would be carried to the national capital.
From August 27 to August 30, the urns will be transported to Kartavya Path.
