Biparjoy Helps To Fill Dams In Western Raj | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Although the cyclone Biparjoy did not have much effect on the water level of Bisalpur dam, it has definitely played as a boon for other dams in the state, especially those located in Western Rajasthan.
The Bisalpur dam had recorded only an increase of 22cm of water level in the last three days and engineers stated that it would hardly make any difference.
“No, the amount rainfall Tonk had in the last few days won’t have any effect on the water level of Bisalpur dam. Most important, from Wednesday sun is shinning and would start evaporating water. However, the present capacity of water in the dam is good and with monsoon is expected to set in, we feel, there won’t be any shortfall,” said Manish Bansal, WRD executive engineer, in charge of the Bisalpur dam.
On the other hand, rainfall following the cyclone had increased the water level of Rajsamand dam by 380mm and on Wednesday the water level of the dam was 11,500 mc feet. “We normally gives 700 mc feet to PHED every year to supply drinking water. We can say that the cyclone had met the demand of drinking water for this year,” said Arun Sharma, WRD executive engineer in-charge of Rajsamand.
Additional chief secretary water resources department – Subodh Agarwal – coordinated with the district administration on Wednesday to review the status of flood managements in the state. The additional chief secretary has instructed the district administration to make proper arrangement for relief and recue in case of sudden inflow of water in the dams.
“One of the most sensitive issues during flood is the proper working of the gates of the dams. The ACS has instructed to conduct mock drills before June 30. This is to ensure that 36 gated dams of the state don’t face any problem,” said a water resources department official.
The chief secretary has also asked the additional chief engineers of the Hanumangarh, Kota and Udaipur districts to keep in regular touch with the counterparts in the neighbouring states to get real time information on the inflow of water in the dams and in the Indira Gandhi Canal.
In the meeting the additional chief secretary also reviewed various projects, especially those, announced in the budget to meet the irrigation needs of the farmers and to meet the drinking water demand of the common people.
