Boat capsizes in Rajasthan’s Bisalpur dam; five rescued, two feared dead | Jaipur News

JAIPUR/AJMER: Illegal boating in Bisalpur dam proved fatal for a family when a boat with seven people in it capsized amid a storm on Saturday evening. Five people were rescued, and a search was on by State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams on Sunday to find the other two, including an engineer.
Police said Mohasin Khan, a junior engineer of Todaraisingh panchayat samiti, and his family were in the rowing boat. Khan, 35, and another man were missing till the latest reports at night and are feared to be dead.
Khan had brought his family members from Jaipur for boating in Bisalpur dam. Since no motorboat was available, the family was out in the water on a rowing boat, said officials.
“When heavy winds struck the boat, Khan called up some people on his mobile phone, requesting them to help rescue his family, and the family was provided life jackets. But then the boat suddenly capsized. Five occupants of the boat could be rescued. Khan and one Badri Gurjar, who was rowing the boat, went missing under water. A rescue operation is on to find them,” said a police officer of Tonk district.
Todaraisingh police station SHO Datar Singh said Khan, his wife Sahita Banu, 27, relatives Talib Hussein, Shaguffta Banu, and two children Apar Khan, 8, and Arman, 5, had gone to the dam on Saturday.
“The family had gone at around 3pm on Saturday and were to return at 6.30pm. After the boat capsized due to stormy weather, our divers and fishermen managed to rescue five members. A search is on to find Mohasin Khan and Badri Gurjar,” he said.
Police said Khan, after finding the storm getting severe, had himself called the contractor of fishing, Tahir, for help. “The fishermen had sent life jackets, and five of the seven people were rescued,” said SHO Singh.
