Jaipur: A gang of vehicle thieves travelled in their BMW car in the city to prowl for luxury sedans and expensive bikes.
Vidhyadhar Nagar police busted the gang and arrested three persons who said they had used their own luxury car to recce the city and to evade suspicious glares of cops and neighbours.
Police have listed the vehicle lifters as Dharmendra Kumar Samota, a resident of Jhunjhunu, Raghuveer Singh Rathore (30), and Abdul Shakur (43). Vidhyadhar Nagar SHO Virendra Kureel said police recovered three four-wheelers including a Honda City car and two bikes.
“The accused used a grinder machine to remove chassis numbers from the stolen cars and swap it with another series of numbers,” Kureel said.
As per officials, an FIR was registered on July 17 that some thieves had decamped with a pick-up vehicle from Vidhyadhar Nagar. Three police teams fanned out in different directions across the city to search for suspects. “We sift through multiple CCTVs and found that the accused were driving in a BMW to look for vehicles they could steal,” he said.
When the investigators asked the accused about their luxury car, the accused claimed that they had purchased that car but later sold it.
Police also learnt that the gang would first steal a car and use it to steal bikes. “The gang had set up their den in Vaishali Nagar area of Jaipur. They operated throughout the city from there,” said an official.
