JAIPUR: CM Ashok Gehlot said on Saturday that the entire focus of the state police should be on catching the culprits in criminal incidents and ensuring the harshest punishment for them.
Addressing a review meeting of law and order in the state at his residence, Gehlot directed police officers to investigate and monitor criminal cases with a new approach, ensuring speedy justice for the victims and punishment for the criminals so that fear is instilled in them.
Gehlot said the action taken by Rajasthan Police in the past has seen a positive effect across the state and that there has been a steady decrease in crime rate. He instructed the officers to take strict action against those who challenge police and the administration.
Expressing concern over aggrieved people sitting on dharna carrying dead bodies, blocking roads and violating law and order in various incidents, the CM said the victims’ families are misled by antisocial elements in such circumstances. He ordered strict action against such elements. The CM also directed that the reward money on notorious criminals be increased and efforts are made to strengthen the intelligence wing of police.
Chief secretary Usha Sharma, ACS (finance) Akhil Arora, home secretary Anand Kumar, ADG of SOG-ATS Ashok Rathore, ADG (Crime) Dinesh MN, ADG (intelligence) S Sengthir and other senior police officials were present at this review meeting.
