Jaipur: Almost six years after he shot dead a Chennai police inspector in Pali, kingpin of a notorious inter-state gang was arrested with his four aides in Jaipur’s Kalwar on Friday.
Station House Officer (SHO) of Kalwar police station Ravindra Pratap Singh told TOI that police busted the NRP (Nathuram Pindel) gang when the accused were plotting to attack a jeweller in Jaipur’s Hatoj area with illegal firearms, iron rods, and chilli powder.
Singh said police have arrested the NRP gang’s kingpin Nathu Ram (40), a native of Pali district, and his aides identified as Prakash Sirvi (22), Pravin alias Manish (22), Anmol (21), and Mali Ram Kumwat (24).
As per Jaipur police, the accused had conducted an intensive recce of a jeweller in Hathoj. They were planning to attack and rob him on Saturday.
Singh said that the Nathu Ram was booked back in 2017 when he shot dead Chennai police’s inspector S Periyapandian. The inspector had come to Pali to arrest the accused for a gold heist in Chennai.
The kingpin of the gang has been involved in as many as 37 serious offences of robbery, loot theft, murder in over five different states.
“The accused used to travel to Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu for robberies and loots,” said an official, adding that Nathu Ram was catagorised as a “hardcore criminal” by the Pali district police.
The accused said that the police had intecetped the gang’s SUV in the city on Friday. “The suspects were taken to the Kalwar police station where they revealed that a jeweller was on their target,” the official added.
The Jaipur police said that the accused are notorious criminal who never shy away from using illegal weapons. “The gang goes dormant for a few months after each heist. They then reorganise to plot another robbery,” the official said.
