City Councillors Blame Admn Failure After 7-year-old Dies | Jaipur News
Jaipur: After a 7-year-old boy died when he was washed away in an overflowing drain, near his house amid heavy rain on Monday near Sriniwas Nagar under Murlipura locality of the city, elected representatives in the city blamed administrative failure for the situation.
On Monday, with the first heavy spell of rain in the city this monsoon season, all the tall claims made by the municipal corporation fell flat as streets turned into rivers in most parts of the city. Due to lack of proper cleaning of drains and sewage lines, dirty water was flowing on streets.
Councillors said that the incident is unfortunate, but only Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) is not responsible for ensuring that drainage systems in the city are in proper working condition.
“In the city, JMC, JDA, housing board, there are different agencies that are responsible for development and ensuring that there are proper drainage and sewage systems in the city so that residents can live properly during monsoon. We will have to check if the area where the incident happened is under JMC or not, but this shows the clear administrative failure due to which a child lost his life,” said Puneet Karnawat, deputy mayor of JMC-Greater.
Mayor Somya Gurjar on Monday issued a note sheet to commissioner JMC Greater after the death of a child in Murlipura.
She said, “In Murlipura zone of JMC Greater, a child has died after being swept away in water during heavy rain. In this matter, a report must be presented immediately without delay.”
He said that recently, a man died due to electrocution from an open wire, but no action was taken in that too.
“We are tired of raising the issue related to lack of proper cleaning of drains and sewage lines before the administration and authorities. Despite several meetings, authorities are still sleeping. A child got swept away because of overflowing drain water, and still authorities have not stepped in to take immediate action,” said a councillor from Murlipura.
