Civic Bypolls: Officials To Face Action For Delay In Reporting Vacancies | Jaipur News

Jaipur: State election commissioner (SEC) Madhukar Gupta on Friday said appropriate action, both administrative and legal, would be taken as per ECI rules against officials of the districts and district election officers (DEOs) who deliberately delay reporting the vacancies in the panchayats and urban local bodies where by-elections are scheduled to be conducted within two months.
Gupta said action was taken against a few officials in some districts, including Ganganagar, Jaisalmer and Chittorgarh, who had delayed the reporting the vacancies.
Gupta said efforts were being made to get the by-elections conducted in June for the vacancies available till April 30. “If any officer or employee does not discharge their duties properly or remains indifferent towards the election process, the commission will take cognizance of the matter and ensure necessary action is taken in such cases,” he said.
“District election officers have been directed to use ballot papers or EVMs as per their convenience. Where the number of candidates or voters is small, district election officers can decide to simplify the election process,” he added.
The SEC is set to conduct by-elections to the vacant posts (till January 31) of four zila parishad members in four districts and 16 panchayat samiti members in 13 districts on May 7. Not a single nomination was filed in Baijupada panchayat samiti of Dausa district as locals boycotted the election in protest against delimitation in panchayat samiti, said Gupta.
