Cocaine smuggling racket busted, 2 Nigerians held after raid in city | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: The Crime Branch of Rajasthan Police on Saturday busted an international cocaine smuggling racket and arrested two Nigerian nationals in Jaipur with drugs worth several lakhs of rupees.
Police conducted a raid on a house in Jawahar Circle police station area and apprehended the two accused, identified as Olaye Friday and Emmanuel John. Drugs worth several lakhs of rupees and cash of Rs 1 lakh were seized from the two men, said officials. A team of cops was tracking the duo for the past three months, they added.
The Crime Branch also confiscated 58 grams of cocaine that was packaged into small packets. The seizure was made by a team comprising Additional SP Sanjeev Bhatnagar and Circle Inspector (CI) Ram Singh Nathawat.
“During the tracking for three months, Nathawat and his team had learnt of a major smuggling racket operating in the city. They learnt of two foreign nationals coming to Jaipur from New Delhi to supply cocaine,” said an official.
Police are yet to ascertain where the two men purchased the cocaine. “We believe some larger international racket was helping the duo in the supply of such drugs,” said an official.
The accused focused on a specific clientele for supplying cocaine. “This drug is highly expensive and hard to obtain. It is not as easily accessible as substances like ganja. Consequently, only a small number of smugglers oversee the supply chains. We are probing whether the accused intended to deliver the drugs to local peddlers or directly to customers,” said the official.
The two arrested men are being interrogated about their local contacts, he added.
