Congress: Situation In Country Getting Worse Than Emergency: Cm | Jaipur News
Jaipur: Chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday lashed out at the Centre over the arrest of Congress leader Pawan Khera alleging that the situation in the country is getting “worse than Emergency”.
Khera, who was on his way to Raipur for the Congress plenary, was deplaned and arrested by the Assam police in connection with his alleged remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Later, on Supreme Court’s direction, he was given bail by a Delhi court.
“Today the situation in the country is getting worse than the Emergency. There is an emergency-like situation in the country without declaring it. This incident has defamed our country all over the world. Nothing can be more unfortunate than this, that is why we say democracy is in danger and the Constitution is being torn to shreds. This pride of their will not work, the public will destroy their pride,” he said.
He asked are all these happening without the knowledge of the PM and home minister. Gehlot condemned the incident and described it as the “frustration” of the BJP.
“Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera was taken off the flight by the Assam police while going from Delhi to participate in the Raipur Congress session. What was the emergency that the Assam police came to Delhi and did this?” Gehlot said in a tweet.
“First the Enforcement Directorate raids in Raipur and now such an act shows the frustration of the BJP. This is condemnable,” he said. Other Congress leaders also targeted the ruling BJP at the Centre over this episode. Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra tweeted,
“The arrest of Pawan Khera by the autocratic Modi government and preventing him from going to the Congress session is the height of dictatorship.”
Former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot tweeted, “The manner in which Pawan Khera was taken off the flight and his arrest are condemnable. First, the ED action in Chhattisgarh and now such an undemocratic act. The country is watching the way the central government strangled democracy.”
