Cop gets 2.5 years’ RI for deserting force when sent to Red zone | India News

MUMBAI: A sessions court on Friday convicted and sentenced a 30-year-old State Reserve Police Force officer to two-and-half-years rigorous imprisonment for disobeying his superior’s orders, deserting his post or force and leaving his rifle unattended at a CSMT platform in 2011.

The director general of police had issued orders to send a police force of 102 personnel for Naxalite bandobast at Gadchiroli. However, the accused, Pramod Patil, fled from the platform, apparently afraid of taking up his new posting.
“There is no sufficient and reasonable ground made out by the accused for releasing him on probation of good conduct. The submission of accused and his counsel in this regard is without merit and hence rejected,” said additional sessions judge N P Tribhuwan.
