Covid-19: India reports 42,640 new cases, 1,167 deaths in last 24 hours | India News

In the last 24 hours, 1,167 more people lost their lives to Covid, taking the total death toll to 3,89,302.
The daily recoveries have overtaken the number of daily cases for the 40th consecutive day, with 81,839 patients discharged in the last 24 hours. The country’s active caseload has further declined to 6,62,521.
Meanwhile, the daily positivity rate stands at 2.56%, less than 5% for 15 consecutive days. The weekly positivity rate is 3.21%.
After a dip, the testing increased to 16,64,360 on Monday. Overall, 39,40,72,142 samples have been tested so far, according to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
In a major feat, the country administered 86.16 lakh vaccine doses yesterday, which is the highest ever single day vaccination achieved in the world so far, according to health ministry. With this, the country has administered over 28.87 crore vaccine doses so far. Maharashtra leads the states with 2.8 million vaccine doses being administered, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
