JAIPUR: Covid has claimed 25 lives in the past five days across the state.
In the last 24 hours, eight persons lost their lives taking the casualty count to 8,999. The good thing, however, is that the mortality rate is just 0.05 per cent.
The number of Covid deaths in January surpassed the fatalities of July 2021, when 33 casualties were reported. However, the mortality rate at that time was 2.65%. As far as cases are concerned, January has so far seen 71,763 infections compared to 1,245 in July.
On Saturday, the state reported 9,676 fresh cases, taking the overall tally to 10,27,990. Active cases too rose from 52,773 to 58,428. Jaipur reported 1,973 cases increasing its active cases from 19,678 to 20,123.
The eight fatalities were reported from seven districts. Jhalawar reported two deaths , while one death each was reported from Barmer, Bikaner, Jaipur, Sikar, Sirohi and Udaipur.
The person who died of Covid in Jaipur was undergoing treatment for his comorbidities since the past few days. “The 86-year-old person was admitted to a private hospital with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease on January 3. He was undergoing treatment in the ICU. He tested Covid positive on January 13 and died on Saturday,” said Dr Narrottam Sharma, CMHO, Jaipur (I).
In Sikar, a 75-year-old man died. “The person, with Covid pneumonia and several other comorbidities was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Jaipur,” said Dr Ajay Chaudhary, CMHO, Sikar.
A 78-year-old man from Barmer died in Jodhpur. “The person was undergoing treatment for brain hemorrhage at AIIMS, Jodhpur,” said Dr BL Vishnoi, CMHO, Barmer.
Health department officials said in other districts too, mostly elderly and patients with comorbidities died.
