Dalit Woman Cremated After Govt Assures ₹35l Compensation & Job | Jaipur News
JAISALMER: After the district administration assured a government job on contract to a family member and Rs 35 lakh as compensation, family members on Sunday cremated the body of the married Dalit woman who was raped and scorched with acid in a village in Pachpadra police station area in Barmer district. She died of her injuries Friday night at the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Jodhpur.
Family members of the killed woman along with several protesters on Saturday held a dharna outside the mortuary where the body was kept. Later they shifted their dharna to outside the Balotra SDM’s office.
At 9pm, Barmer district collector Lok Bandhu and superintendent of police Digant Anand arrived to hold talks with the family members. The talks lasted till 2am, when an agreement was reached for Rs 35 lakh as compensation and a government job on contract to a family member.
After a postmortem examination by the medical board, the body was sent at 5am to the woman’s native village. Amid a large number of police personnel deployed for security, family members performed the cremation.
BJP’s former state president Satish Poonia reached the woman’s native village on Sunday and after condoling family members slammed Congress government for failing to maintain law and order. Poonia demanded that the government take strict action against the culprits. CM Ashok Gehlot on Sunday expressed grief over the death of Dalit woman who was allegedly raped and set ablaze in Barmer, and called for a social boycott also of elements involved in such heinous crime.
In a brief interaction with the reporters on Sunday, Gehlot said the accused has been arrested and strict action will be taken. “It is a sad incident when such an incident happens in someone’s family. We all are very sad about this… I think society will also have to come forward… Social boycott of such elements should also be done,” he said.
