JAIPUR: A Delhi Police team has recovered remnants of four half-burnt mobile phones that Lalit Jha, the alleged mastermind behind the Parliament security breach, had used for the incident before he and co-accused Mahesh Kumhawat burned them near a roadside dhaba in Nagaur district. The police team had arrived in Nagaur on Saturday night to look for the destroyed mobile phones.
Four partially burnt mobile phones were recovered at two locations near the dhaba known as Shiv Hotel and Restaurant at Trisingiya village, said locals. The accused had gathered around a bonfire in front of the dhaba for relief from the cold, they said. The partially burnt mobile phones were further subjected to burning on the opposite side of the highway near the dhaba, they said, adding that the Delhi Police team also found burnt clothes and fragments of burnt plastic at the second location.
The investigation team collected burnt pieces and ash from both sites and took them to Delhi for further analysis so that they can be used as evidence.
Jha might have arrived by train: Cops
Dhaba owner Bhanwar Lal said Mahesh, a local resident, was a regular visitor there and that he knew him by name. He said there were two other people with Mahesh. Given the dhaba’s proximity to the railway station, police believe Jha might have arrived there by train. Mahesh, who was tasked with sheltering Lalit, had reportedly performed recce during the day, confident that there were no CCTV cameras at the dhaba and in its vicinities.
Mahesh, who completed his studies up to the 9th grade, lives in Kuchaman and installs lanterns at various sites for a living. His father is a daily-wage labourer, and his brother does electrical fitting work, said sources. Mahesh was accompanied by his cousin, Kailash Kumawat, at the dhaba, where the trio spent the night on cots, said sources.
