Dogs Rescued By Police Back With Owner, Activist Cries Foul | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Nine dogs rescued by a team from Bindayaka police station from an illegal breeder on Saturday were handed over to him on Monday, prompting an animal rights activist to accuse the municipal authorities of ignoring the dogs’ need for medical treatment.
After receiving a complaint that the dogs were living in a miserable condition at a house in Bindayaka, police had raided the house and sent the rescued dogs to a dog pound run by Jaipur Municipal Corporation – Greater (JMC-G) at Jaisinghpura.
A case was registered against the owner of the pets, who identified himself as a breeder. As per the seizure list of police, two German Shepherds, two Labradors, one Saint Bernard, one Beagle, a dog of mixed breed, and a German Shepherd puppy and a Labrador puppy were rescued from the house.
“We rescued the nine dogs with the help of NGO workers after getting a tip-off from the NGO that they were living in a miserable condition in the house. We lodged a case under the animal cruelty law against the dogs’ owner. We handed tover the dogs to the municipal corporation as per procedure,” said SHO Bhupendra Singh of Bindayaka police station.
Animal rights activist Mariam Abuhaidari, however, said it was illegal to hand over seized animals to their owner when the case is on.
“All our efforts went in vain as the state veterinary officer Dr Neha Gaur handed back the nine dogs to their owner illegally. The owner concerned claims himself to be a breeder, but he does not have the mandatory registration to breed dogs,” said Abuhaidari, who had sent the tip-off to police after gathering information about the dogs from the neighbours of the accused.
