JAIPUR: NDA’s Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu is comfortably placed as far as votes from Rajasthan are concerned. She is expected to get 30,104 votes while the Opposition candidate, Yashwant Sinha, is likely to get 20,196 votes in the state.
When the share of votes of 76 MLAs – Bharatiya Janata Party (71), Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (3) and Bharatiya Tribal Party (2) – and 29 BJP and RLP MPs (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) are combined, Murmu is expected to get 30,104 votes.
Combining the share of votes of 124 MLAs – Congress (108), Independents (13), Rashtriya Lok Dal (1) and Communist Party of India-Marxist (2) – and six Rajya Sabha MPs brings the vote figure to 20,196 for Yashwant Sinha.
The total value of votes in Rajasthan for Presidential elections is 50,300 — 25,800 for MLAs and 24,500 for MPs. The value of vote of an MLA in Rajasthan = total population of Rajasthan (1971 census)/total number of seats in the state assembly X 1000. Value of vote of an MLA = 25,765,806/1,000X200=128.829=129. The value of vote of each MP is 700.
Hence, the total votes Murmu is likely to get in Rajasthan is likely to be {76 (MLAs) X 129 (value of vote of each MLA) = 9804} + {29 (MPs) X 700 (value of vote of each MP) = 20,300} = 9804+20,300 = 30,104 votes.
In case of Sinha, it is likely to be {124 (MLAs) X 129 (value of vote of each MLA) = 15,996 + {6 (MPs) X 700 (value of vote of each MP) = 4,200} = 15,996+4,200 = 20,196 votes.
The Presidential election is set to be held on July 18.
