Dug-up roads to make life tough for Jaipur commuters during rains | Jaipur News

Roads dug up for drinking water pipeline left unrepaired in Sodala

JAIPUR: This monsoon, the civic bodies here will expose many of its commuters to massive risks as several arterial roads have been dug up leaving behind trenches and ditches right before the rains.
The partially completed work on culverts and open pits on roads leading to major markets are already creating difficulties and increasing risk of accidents.
Vijay Jain, a resident of Raja Park said, “Recently, the road was dug up to lay pipelines. The pits are filled with sand, which could be easily washed away with rains. Accidents will certainly occur and vehicles will get damaged too.”
Like every year, the directorate of local bodies (DLB) had directed all the civic bodies to complete the road repairing works before monsoon. However, it appears the directions fell on deaf ears.
The Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) dug up roads just before monsoon to lay water pipelines. Due to lack of coordination, time opted was not appropriate. “The roads should be dug after monsoon so that possibilities of accidents are reduced. Even if a pipeline was laid this time, road should have been constructed,” said Ashish Pareek , a resident of Sethi Colony.
Many claim the roads dug up by the civic bodies are all set to turn into nightmare during monsoon. During the recent showers, large portion of a road caved in Cscheme and Pratap Nagar areas. In some areas, gravels have started to come off and once it rains, a trench might develop along the dug-up portion.
Jaipurites also pointed out that the civic administration failed to carry out proper repair works and hence commuters will be exposed to threat. “I travel from Adarsh Nagar to Sitapura industrial area via Jhalana. Entire stretch of Shanti Path and Jhalana has been dug, but repair is not up to the mark. Travelling on these roads with clogged water would be risky for residents,” said Bhawani Singh, a resident.
