Jaipur: State election commissioner (SEC) Madhukar Gupta on Monday said the election commission should not be dependent on the state government for its resources and finances, and that there should be a separate fund for it. On new proposals to be floated during the summit of the State Election Commissions, scheduled to be held in Rajasthan in June, Gupta said, “The Election Commission is a statutory body. It is not part of the government. We should not be dependent on the state government for resources and finances. We send the file to the finance department, but such things should change. The file should not go to the finance department.”
