Elderly dies due to ill-health at rahat camp in Rajasthan’s Pachpadra | Jaipur News

JAISALMER: A 62-year-old man, who came to get his family registered for the state government’s welfare schemes, died after his health deteriorated at a ‘Mehangai Rahat Camp‘ (inflation relief camp) at Pachpadra town near Barmer on Tuesday.
The family made the matter public on Wednesday, after which district officials rushed to the house of the deceased and collected information about the incident.
The man was cremated without post-mortem late Tuesday evening. Parasmal Kharwal, a resident of Pachpadra, died on the way while being taken to a hospital, district officials said on Wednesday. The man hailed from a BPL family. He is survived by five daughters and an 18-year-old son. His wife helped him in running the livelihood by working on daily wages.
On getting information about his death, the local administration team posted at Pachpadra reached the house of the deceased and gathered information about the situation. Politics heated up after this incident. Leader of the Opposition, Rajendra Rathore, made a scathing attack on the state government by tweeting about this incident. “I had said earlier that elders would face difficulty in coming to the camp in the scorching heat,” wrote Rathore.
Shankar Singh Kharwal, the nephew of the deceased, said Kharwal had gone to the camp to register for government schemes. “He had submitted the slip to put his number. He started waiting for his turn. During this, he started feeling uncomfortable and his health deteriorated there. He sat down for 5-10 minutes,” said Shankar.
“When other people present there took care of him, my uncle told them that he was not feeling well. Then people present there called for a taxi and sent him to a hospital. When I got information, I reached the hospital,” Shankar said. He said that on reaching the hospital, the doctors examined and declared his uncle dead.
Barmer district collector Lok Bandhu denied that Parasmal’s health deteriorated at the camp and said Parasmal and his son Mahadev left the camp after getting the registration done on Tuesday.
The collector claimed Parasmal’s health deteriorated at home, which is just 500 meters away from the camp site, when his relatives took him to a hospital. “His relatives took him to the CHC at Pachpada where the doctors declared him brought dead. His family did not want a post-mortem to avoid legal procedures, so the body was handed over to them,” said the collector.
