Efforts Bear Fruit, 9 Gibs Sighted At Dnp | Jaipur News
Jaisalmer: The efforts to conserve the Great Indian Bustard (GIB) have borne fruits. On Saturday, a forest guard saw nine godawan (local name for GIB).
In this breeding season around 15 eggs were seen. The Desert National Park (DNP) officers hope to find more eggs in the coming months. In the last three years, around 31 eggs have been brought to the breeding centre.
DNP deputy conservator of forest Ashish Vyas confirming the news said, “It is indeed very good news that the GIB are increasing.
More than 15 godawans have laid eggs in Sudasari area of the DNP and Ramdeora closure area of the district. This time conditions were favourable and results encouraging.”
He said that they are monitoring the ones that are tagged and added that the reason behind many birds laying eggs is excessive rains and better arrangements at the closure by DNP.
He said forest guard Danveer had seen nine godawans in Sudasari Kilorinadi closure.
The construction of Ramdeora hatchery centre is almost complete. Some work of the water pipeline is yet to be completed and talks are on with PHED for the same, he added.
There are some issues and the senior officers have been asked to resolve them.
The world’s first GIB conservation breeding centre is at Sam in Jaisalmer, under the conservation breeding programme that is jointly implemented by Rajasthan government, Centre, ministry of environment forest & climate change and Wildlife Institute of India.
