Ercp To Become The Lifeline Of Eastern Raj In Next Few Years | Jaipur News

Jaipur: No matter who wins the assembly elections, if the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) is not completed within the stipulated deadline, there will be severe water scarcity in state’s 13 districts.
State government officials working on the project’s development said that if it is not completed on time then in the next five years the population of 13 districts, including Jaipur, will face water scarcity.
Recently, a video of Union Jal Shakti minister Ganjendra Singh Shekhawat went viral. The video reportedly from minister’s visit in Sawai Madhopur shows him saying, “I will give you Rs 46,000 crore for ERCP, you establish the rule of Rajendra Rathore.”
“Besides the projected growth of population, the state government recently introduced a notification for providing drinking water connections in residential complexes across the state. The way multi-storey buildings are developing in Jaipur and district cities and town, ERCP will become essential in the coming times,” said a senior PHED engineer.
Officials of the Ground Water Department (GWD) said, under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the government had sanctioned several surface water projects in the last four years. Once all these projects are completed more than 90% areas of the state will get connected with surface water.
“Of the remaining 10% areas, ground water condition in 5% is more than sufficient. But in the rest 5% area, ground water condition is a major concern and these areas of Alwar and parts of Jaipur districts can get connected with surface water only after ERCP is completed,” said an official. After Bisalpur water began to be supplied in Jaipur in 2008, the pipeline was stopped only for a few days, he added.
