High Court upholds arrest of NewsClick founder
The Delhi High Court has upheld the arrest and remand of NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha and HR head Amit Chakravarty, stating that there were no procedural errors or violations of legal provisions. The court dismissed their petitions, stating that there was no requirement to provide written grounds of arrest under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The judge did, however, recommend that police provide written grounds of arrest to accused individuals in the future. The court also rejected arguments that the remand order was passed in the absence of the petitioners’ lawyers.
