Extinction Event: Temple Panel Never Claimed Pm Donated Envelop With ₹21: Mahant | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Amid war of words between the BJP and the Congress over Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s “envelope” comment, the mahant of Shri Devnarayan Temple of Malaseri Dungari in Asind of Bhilwara on Friday said that nobody from the temple, including him, ever mentioned that the envelope opened at the temple having Rs 21 was donated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He stated that the whole issue is blown out of proportion.
Mahant Hemraj Poswal at a press conference in Jaipur said, “When Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited our temple in January, we had not demanded anything from him. Six months after his visit a donation box of the temple was opened in which a large number of people came, including mediapersons.”
“He is the only Prime Minister who visited our temple,” he added.
Poswal said that some people for their vested interest and animosity against him and temple community spread misleading news that Modi had left an envelope in the donation box in which Rs 21 were found when it was opened.
“During opening of the box neither myself nor our temple committee had ever claimed that the envelope was from Prime Minister and it had Rs 21,” Poswal added.
“The misleading news was planted by some local leaders for their own vested interests and also to malign the image of Modi,” he added.
Talking about Priyanka mentioning the “envelope” tale, Poswal said, “Priyanka cooked this story and mentioned about the same during her recent public rallies at Dausa and Jhunjhunu that has affected the faith of members of Sanatan Dharma.”
“I would like to ask Priyanka that there are thousands of temples of Lord Devnarayan. Has she or her family members ever shown their faith and visited these temples? I would like to add that no more misleading news on the religious faith and donation should be spread,” he added.
Asked why it took him so late to realise this and react on the whole thing, Poswal said, “Because we are people of having religious faith and we are not politically inclined. This is just to keep a full stop on all the politics and statements, counterstatements related to this matter.”
