7 get life term for murder of SHO & constable, 11 freed | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: A sessions court at Fatehpur Shekhawati in Sikar convicted seven persons in connection with the murder of the then SHO Mukesh Kanoongo and constable Ram Prakash of Fatehpur Kotwali police station. The seven convicted were awarded life imprisonment and 11 others were acquitted in the case.
Both the SHO and constable were brutally murdered on October 6, 2018 and the case was taken under case officers’ scheme in which prosecution presented more than 121 witnesses and more than 200 evidence. All the convicts have also been slapped with a cash penalty of Rs 75,000 each for their conviction in various sections of IPC.
Rajesh Vidharthi, the deputy SP, Fatehpur who is the case officer of the case and was also appointed as nodal officer by the high court brought independent witnesses in this case and burnt midnight oil to get justice for his fellow policemen.
Amit Kumar, the presiding officer of additional district and sessions court, while pronouncing the judgement, awarded life imprisonment to Ajay Chaudhary, Jagdip Dhankar, Dinesh alias Lara, Om Prakash alias OP, Rampal, Anuj alias Chota Pandya and Aamir. “Two accused are still absconding in the case and 11 were acquitted by the court,” said Sitaram Mahich, assistant public prosecutor in the case while talking to TOI.
The court has also slapped a cash penalty of Rs 75,000 each on the convicts for section 302, 307, 332, 341 and sections of Arms act. Vidhyarthi, who played a key role in faster conviction, said, “We also ensured that none of the accused in jail got a bail. Except Aamir, none got the bail during the trial. Also, bringing witnesses in the case for the incident that took place at 11,30 pm was a herculean task.” “Court had asked us to bring the witnesses independently and we could provide 121 witnesses in trial,” he added.
Both Kanoongo and Prakash were gunned down on October 6, 2010 when they were chasing wanted criminals in a case. After the court’s judgement the senior officers took out a march from the upper district and sessions court to the Fatehpur Kotwali police station and gave floral tributes to the policemen who were killed.
Mukesh Kanoongo got a job in the police in 1996 as sub-inspector and later was promoted. Some hours prior to his murder he had an input on the movement of gangster Ajay Chaudhary in his area. Thus he started a chase at 11 pm along with constable Ram Prakash and two other constables.
