Gangster Vinod Pathena, 3 aides hurt in exchange of fire with police in Bharatpur | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Notorious gangster Vinod Pathena and three of his accomplices were injured in a shootout with the police in Bharatpur when they tried to escape by firing at the cops in the wee hours of Sunday.
Bharatpur SP Shyam Singh said accused Pathena and Chandra Shekhar Deshwal are undergoing treatment at SMS Hospital in Jaipur, while two others – Prem Veer and Bhim Singh – are admitted to RBM Hospital in Bharatpur. Police were looking for the four men for thrashing and firing at local businessman Lala Pehlwan (40) outside a gym in the district’s Atalband police station area on Thursday.
According to Singh, a special team detained the four men who were travelling in a black SUV in Gurugram on Saturday. The team was bringing the four to Bharatpur in separate vehicles when shortly after 12.05am, the accused requested the cops to briefly pull over on the Sonkh-Kumher road of the district on the pretext of relieving themselves, he said.
“As the constables were taking the accused back to the vehicles after they had relieved themselves, they suddenly snatched the service weapons of two constables. Seeing this, Pathena shouted at his aides to fire at the team,” said an official.
Responding to the order of their boss, Prem Veer and Bhim Singh fired at the cops in a desperate bid to escape, police said. The police team immediately retaliated and apprehended all the four accused and retrieved the weapons, Bharatpur IG Gaurav Shrivastava said.
Bharatpur cops will be rewarded: DGP
Police said the accused sustained bullet wounds on their legs. Talking to TOI, additional DGP (crime) Dinesh MN said Bharatpur police had done a commendable job and they would be accordingly rewarded. “Rajasthan police has launched a massive crackdown against organised gangs and gangsters,” Dinesh said. All the accused are undergoing treatment under heavy police security. According to Shrivastava, Pathena is actively involved in criminal activities after he walked out on bail last year. In December last year, Pathena was booked for ramming his vehicle into a businessman’s car in Jaipur’s Shipra Path area with an aim to extort Rs 50 lakh from the latter.
