Jaipur: With waste dumps increasing in different localities due to poor sanitation conditions, people in many areas have started burning the waste at night.
In mandis and marketplaces, waste is accumulated and burnt at night. In areas like Malviya Nagar, Jyothi Nagar, Lalkothi vegetable market, Bapu Nagar, burning of waste has increased in the past two weeks.
“Waste collection process deteriorated a lot in the past two months due to lack of sanitation staff.Hence In some localities, residents are now dependent on private waste collection machinery, who collect the waste and burn it. This has led to a rise in air pollution in residential colonies every evening,” said a councillor from Malviya Nagar.
In Gopalpura, near Ridhi Sidhi circle, residents complained that waste is dumped on vacant plots every day at night, after which it is burnt together causing pollution].
Residents and councillors also raised the issue of open waste dumps increasing in the city and waste being collected once in three days. “It has come to my notice that garbage from market complexes, residential areas are not being collected regularly and open waste depots have also increased. Due to the election process, monitoring of sanitation conditions in the city could not take place properly. We will instruct officials to increase monitoring,” said Puneet Karnawat, deputy mayor of JMC-Greater.
