World Cup: City Cops To Try On Polo Caps, Sports Shoes | Jaipur News

Jaipur: In a move that could provide respite to police personnel involved in a gruelling law and order duties, the city police have introduced a trial run for a potential uniform overhaul. Additional commissioner of police (law and order) Rahul Prakash issued an order that proposes changes that include replacing the existing woollen caps with sleek polo caps and swapping the traditional stiff black leather shoes for more comfortable sports shoes in the same colour.
The police officials have not yet determined the specifications for the caps and shoes as part of the new uniform.
The trial run for the changes will last for three months, during which the police will collect feedback from personnel to assess their comfort. However, these changes will only apply to police personnel involved in law and order duties for six hours or more. After the completion of three months, the police will take a final decision to determine whether the changes in the uniform will be required or not. The police had replaced the blue berets of the traffic police with new pique caps a year ago because many constables had expressed concerns about the discomfort, they experienced with beret caps.
“The existing khaki berets are made of woollen materials, which can be very uncomfortable for police officers to wear during hot summers and humid periods,” said an official. Complaints about berets include frequent headaches and skin irritation. Similar issues are faced with black boots, which make it harder for constables to run when required while on duty.
“The black shoes are often not compatible with certain law and order situations, where police personnel have to walk for several kilometre, sports shoes could be swapped in such cases,” added an official.
