Gehlot Joins Rahul’s Caste Census Call | Jaipur News
Jaipur: Chief minister Ashok Gehlot has joined Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to demand inclusion of caste in the next census. This will help in giving reservation benefits based on different communities’ population. The chief minister appealed to the state’s Saini and other OBC sub-groups who have been demanding increased quota to come for talks instead of blocking the Jaipur-Agra national highway.
Gehlot said, “The protesters should either meet the social justice minister or come to me so that we can find a solution.” Gehlot was speaking to the media on the side lines of the ‘inflation relief camp’ launched across Rajasthan on Monday.
Replying to a question on relief on petroleum products, he accused the Centre of adopting a policy of duplicity.
He said the Centre has introduced additional excise and special excise duties on petroleum products to deny the states their share.
He said according to the prevailing system only the excise duty is shared with the states which has remained stagnant while the Centre has been hiking special excise duty when crude oil was cheap in international markets. It has refused to reduce such special taxes when the crude oil prices shoot up. TNN
