Girl Students: Nearly 3.5l Girl Students In Raj Not Given Free Bicycles For 2 Yrs | Jaipur News

Kota: Nearly 3.50 lakh girl students in government schools in the state have not been distributed free bicycles by the state government for the last two years and have to walk to their schools from their homes in the remote areas.

Free bicycles were last distributed in the state in November 2021.
The scheme of free distribution of bicycles to girls passing out into the 9th class in government schools was introduced by the Vasundhra Raje government in 2011 to promote education of girls, particularly in remote rural areas.

The succeeding Ashok Gehlot government continued the scheme.
Girl students of 9th class were expected to receive the free bicycles in October-November last year, but now they are in class 10 and are yet to receive the bicycles as promised by the scheme.
“I and five other girls have to walk for 10 km to and from our village, Singadi, to our school at Hindoli, and it takes over an hour. We are yet to receive the bicycles from the government,” said Prayanka Saini, a class-10 student of a government girls’ senior secondary school.
Rinku Kahar, a class-10 student of the school, said she and other girls from remote villages need bicycles to attend school regularly. “Our family condition is not so good that we can buy bicycles,” she said.
