The gang snatched gold chains and a mangalsutra from five women within 90 minutes from Vidhyadhar Nagar, Mansarover and Chitrakoot localities on Wednesday evening.
In almost all cases, the victims described suspects as two youths on a power-bike, clad in black clothes. They were without helmets, pushed their victims before taking away their chains and fled at high speed.
Chaya Sethi (36), a resident of Muhana Road, said in her complaint that she even sustained an injury on her neck as the two suspects on the bike snatched her mangalsutra and a gold chain. She alleged in her FIR to the police that the incident took place at 7PM near a speed bump in Mansarovar when she was driving on her scooter.
The second chain heist also took place in Mansarovar’s Bhrigu Path area, just 15 minutes after Sethi’s chain was robbed. A 59-year-old woman told Mansarovar police that she was riding pillion on her friend’s scooter when two youths on a bike struck from behind and looted her chain.
Even before she could respond, the accused had fled towards Ganga Jamuna petrol station. Renu Goyal (48) an advocate, told TOI on Friday that two bike-borne youths snatched her chain in Chitrakoot on Wednesday afternoon when she was walking back to her house.
Goyal was walking alongside the road when the accused came in front of her, snatched the chain off her neck with full force and sped away.
She alerted the Chitrakoot police station and a CCTV video was retrieved.
In all five cases, the police suspect the involvement of the same gang. “These incidents appear to be carried out by some local gang. The investigation is underway,” said additional police commissioner (crime) Ajay Pal Lamba.
