Gujjars give fitting reply to Cong’s neglect, Gehlot’s scorn for Pilot | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: In the 2018 elections the Gujjar community had voted for the Congress in the anticipation that their leader Sachin Pilot might become chief minister. However, the way Pilot was treated in the party made the Gujjars feel betrayed and this time they had their revenge by voting for the BJP on many seats.
Congress had given tickets to Gujjars on 11 seats, out of which only three won.The BJP had given them ticket on 9 seats, out of which 5 seats were won.
TOI on Sunday after the election results spoke to Gurjar leaders in the state to know if they had actually settled scores with the Congress, especially with chief minister Ashok Gehlot, who had termed Pilot as “nikamma” and “nakara”.
“Sachin Pilot pulled off victory in 2018 with his grit and determination. Despite that he was neglected by chief minister Ashok Gehlot and the party high command. Gehlot termed him as “nikamma” and “nakara”. We are a very emotional community. The election results are a reply to the Congress and especially to Ashok Gehlot ji,” said Himmat Singh, a Gurjar leader of Dausa who was in the brigade of late Kirori Singh Bainsla, who had spearheaded the Gujjar agitation for reservation.
He added that in the 2018 assembly polls, out of the 39 Gujjar dominated seats, the Congress had won 25. “This time the Congress has managed to win only 17,” he said.
“Pilot saab ke tiraskar ka jawab diya hai,” said Hemsingh Gurjar, a native of Bhandarez near Dausa.
The Congress did manage to win a few Gurjar-dominated seats, including Tonk where Sachin Pilot emerged victorious, Hindoli (Ashok Chandna) and Khanpur (Suresh Gurjar). However, Gajraj Khatana and Indra Raj Gurjar, who were seen as left and right-hand men of Sachin Pilot, lost in Bandikui and Virat Nagar, respectively. Similarly, Manisha Gurjar lost to Dharam Pal Gurjar of BJP.
