Rajasthan on high alert as fresh Covid cases jump by over 92% to 252 | Jaipur News

While the state reported 131 cases on Wednesday, 252 persons were found infected by the virus on Thursday. This is the biggest single-day spike in six months and 14 days. The last time the state had reported over 252 cases was on June 16, when 280 persons tested positive,
Besides, active cases too have been increasing at an increasing pace for the past few days. On December 24, the state had 244 active cases, it has increased to 773 on Thursday. This is the highest since July 9, when the state saw 815 such cases.

Jaipur has also breached the 500 mark in active cases since June 21, when the state had 558 active cases.
Some 69 persons have tested positive for the Omicron variant from December 5, till date. Expecting the cases to increase further, the state government is taking all the possible measures from imposing restrictions to vaccinating people to prevent another wave.
“We have issued directions to officials to focus more on random sampling and contact tracing. Also, collectors have been asked to take measures to scale up vaccination with the help of the health department,” said an official.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot recently held a pandemic review meeting with doctors of the SMS Medical College during which they gave an alert on the Omicron variant which is more transmissible and infectious than the Delta variant. The state government is also imposing restrictions and has directed the home department to strictly implement night curfew and ensure that people wear masks and follow Covid-appropriate behaviour.
