Traffic Safety: Changes Likely After Traffic Safety Audit Of Laxmi Mandir Signal-free Project | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Expect some more changes in the traffic flow on Tonk Road as the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is all set to carry out a traffic safety audit of the signal-free traffic project at Laxmi Mandir Tiraha. Officials stated that they may bring in a few changes on recommendations of the safety audit.
“As per norms, any project of more than Rs 10 crore needs to be followed with a road-safety audit. In all probability, a team from Malviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) may carry out this audit. The audit may recommend a few changes in traffic flow, and we would implement them accordingly,” said a JDA official.
Officials said that in the fortnight since the project was implemented, a few glitches could be seen on the roads. There are high chances that the road safety audit may address such issues and engineers may have to implement a few changes.
“A major problem with this project is that it is generating a huge concentration of vehicles near the Tonk Phatak on the Barkat Nagar side of Tonk Puliya. The enforcement department is not taking control of the railway land. Under this circumstance, we have to reduce pressure of vehicles at this point,” said a JDA engineer.
A JDA engineer claimed that they have an alternative plan to remove the divider on Tonk Road right in front of the Nehru Place Market. In that case, vehicles which were taking a U-turn or a right turn from the tiraha can take diversion from this point.
“This is a plan, but Rambagh-bound traffic would have to stop at this point after crossing the tiraha. This may contradict the idea of making the tiraha signal-free,” another official added.
A pedestrian footbridge at the tiraha is on the cards and the bus stand on Tonk Puliya-bound flank of Tonk Road may get shifted.

As Laxmi Mandir becomes signal-free, poor mgmt hits traffic across Tonk Puliya
Traffic chaos and confusion plagued the Laxmi Mandir Tiraha in Jaipur due to the lack of proper traffic management. Vehicles intending to take a right turn towards the newly built underpass were forced to take a left turn due to the absence of policemen. This resulted in a massive traffic jam on Tonk Road. Later, police constables arrived to divert traffic towards the underpass, but this caused inconvenience for motorists heading towards specific destinations. Additionally, the area near the underpass became a bus stop, further hindering traffic flow. The Tonk Phatak area also remained problematic. Efforts are being made to find solutions to these issues.
