Heavy rain batters Rajasthan, normal life badly hit in several districts, 5 killed | Jaipur News
JAIPUR/JAISALMER/ALWAR/ UDAIPUR/KOTA: Heavy rainfall that began at many places in Rajasthan on Friday continued on Saturday and badly hit normal life, causing the death of five people since Friday evening. Gangapur City in Sawai Madhopur district received the maximum 170 mm rainfall.
An 18-year-old student of a private coaching institute in Sikar drowned while crossing a waterlogged road on Saturday evening.
Police said the victim, identified as Yuvraj Meena, fell into an open sewerage tank near Nawalgarh road at around 8.30pm when there was a heavy flow of water on the road due to the rain. tnn

“He was pulled out of the water and rushed to the government hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” said a police officer of Udyog Nagar police station. State Congress president Govind Singh Dotasara reached the hospital in Sikar and termed the incident as “unfortunate”.
Locals and BJP MP Sumedhanand Saraswati staged a protest over the death and blamed it on Sikar’s faulty infrastructure. A man and a woman died after being struck by lightning in two separate incidents in Chittorgarh district on Friday evening. They were identified as Heera Lal Bheel (22) and Kesar Bai.
Heavy rainfall badly affected Gangapur City, where an 18-year-old student drowned while crossing an inundated railway underpass on a bicycle. “The youth, identified as Brahma Gurjar, was returning from tuitions at 9pm when he drowned while trying to cross the inundated railway underpass. His body was found after three hours,” said a police officer.
One of two sisters trapped under the debris of a collapsed house at Naswari village in Alwar district died. Police said the house caved in during heavy rains in the early hours on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Nazrana, 19, and her sister Muskan, 15.
Normal life was hit by heavy rainfall in Jaisalmer. A grid sub-station (GSS) supplying electricity was submerged, affecting power supply for several hours. Almost 80 mm of rainfall was recorded in Jaisalmer till Saturday evening. Gangapur City was followed by Saptara (Karauli) with rainfall of 160 mm; Pratapgarh and Sheoganj (Sirohi) 140 mm each; Nasirabad (Ajmer), Bamanwas (Sawai Madhopur) and Sumerpur (Pali) 100 mm each.
Rainfall varying from 80 mm to 10 mm was witnessed at several other places in the state. Jaipur witnessed a scattered rainfall. The Met office said in its forecast that mild to moderate showers in western Rajasthan and heavy rainfall in eastern Rajasthan were likely in the next 24 hours.
