JAIPUR: The state government will hike OBC reservation from 21% to 27%, with the additional 6% going to the most backward castes within the OBC category. This will increase the overall reservation in the state from 64% to 70%.

OBC reservation

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced this while addressing a Congress rally to kick-start the ruling party’s campaign for the upcoming assembly polls in Mangarh Dham near Banswara on the occasion of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. It was also addressed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Later, the CM tweeted about the proposal in detail. “You (Rahul) said there should be a caste-based census in the country. It is a message for the nation. We want a census done in Rajasthan also. People should get their rights based on caste (population). The demand for a 27% OBC quota has been going on for long. We will fulfil this demand and reserve 6% of it for the ‘original’ OBC,” Gehlot said at the rally.
In the tweet, he said the additional 6% will be for the most backward castes within the OBC category.
Survey will be conducted by OBC panel to identify most backward castes: CM
A survey will be conducted by the OBC commission to identify the most backward castes, and the commission will submit the report in a time-bound manner, said CM Ashok Gehlot in a tweet. “This will provide the most backward castes amng the OBC with more opportunities for education and in services in the government sector,” he said.
He said various SC-ST organisations too have been continuously demanding reservation on the basis of population. “The government will examine this demand also,” he said, adding that while reserving 10% quota for the EWS category, the Rajasthan government had removed the condition of immovable property to ensure that this category gets the quota benefit fully.
Considering the popular demand of people in tribal areas, 2,000 teachers will be transferred from TSP areas to be replaced by local people.
Gehlot also accused Modi of doing nothing to develop a monument at Mangarh Dham despite making promises. The state government will now develop it at a cost of Rs 100 crore, he said. The also promised to increase accommodation for SC, ST and OBC students in state government hostels from 50,000 to one lakh.
Former deputy CM Sachin Pilot said, “We successfully defeated the double engine government of BJP in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh. The time has now come to beat the main engine of BJP in Delhi.” He said Congress would take all castes along and that it was time to dump BJP.
