Holiday declared for Devnarayan Jayanti in Rajasthan | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: On the evening of PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Malaseri Dungri in Bhilwara district on Saturday for the 1,111 Jayanti of Gujjar folk deity Lord Devnarayan, the state government on Friday announced the day as a public holiday in the state.
Devnarayan Board chairman Jogender Singh Awana said the chief minister approved the long-standing demand of the community.
This decision was taken by the CM keeping in mind the faith of the common man and the demand of public representatives, he said.
Devnarayan Board chairman Jogender Singh Awana, industries minister Shakuntala Rawat and minister of state for sports Ashok Chandna including various people’s representatives had written to chief minister demanding that Lord Devnarayan Jayanti be declared a holiday. Awana requested the PM that the 5% reservation in state services to the five communities including Gujjars under MBC (more backward class) be put in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The state assembly has passed a unanimous resolution to this effect.
Lord Devnarayan is worshiped as a protector of cows, a folk deity who removes the sufferings of helpless people and a mighty warrior.
