In A 1st In India, Gehlot Vows Law For Gig Workers, Welfare Fund Of 200cr | Jaipur News
Jaipur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, while presenting the Budget on Friday, announced enactment of a law – Gig Workers Welfare Act – to ensure financial and social security of gig and online platform workers in Rajasthan. Under the Act, the Gig Workers Welfare Board and a Rs 200-crore Gig Workers Welfare and Development Fund will be set up, the chief minister announced.
Rajasthan will become the first state in the country to enact a law to ensure financial and social security of around 5 lakh gig and online platform workers in the state.
The chief minister also announced the Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Shramik Sambal Yojana, under which Rs 200 financial assistance will be provided to a labourer per day up to 7 days in the event of being hospitalised.
Earlier, minister of state for labour (Independent charge) Sukhram Vishnoi had said the state government would take opinions from legal experts to bring a law in order to ensure financial and social security of gig and online platform workers in Rajasthan. The minister had said this during a convention of app-based workers engaged with online platforms like Ola, Uber, Swiggy, Zomato, Rapido and Urban Company.
Social justice and empowerment minister Tikaram Jully addressing the conference, had said, “Rajasthan has the best social security schemes in the country. Our government will ensure the social security of labourers, who are engaged with online platforms like Ola, Uber, Swiggy, Zomato etc.”
