In Rajasthan election, religious gurus live up to faith BJP put in them | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Most of the religious leaders fielded by BJP, including Balmukund Acharya, Baba Balaknath, Narayan Puri and Otaram Dewasi, won the Rajasthan assembly elections, most of them with comfortable margin. They attributed their victories to the good governance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre and rampant corruption and bad law-and-order situation in Rajasthan under CM Ashok Gehlot.
All these winners stated that the voters have bluntly rejected the appeasement politics of Congress and hoped that in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections too, Congress will bite the dust.
The day the candidature of Dewasi was announced against Congress’s Sanyam Lodha on the Sirohi seat, party workers were upbeat and expected a landslide victory for the former. “It is the victory of the people’s faith in the leadership of PM Modi. Also, people have voted against the faulty governance and poor law-and-order in the state,” Dewasi told TOI. He defeated Lodha, one of the OSDs of Gehlot, by a margin of 35,805 votes.
Likewise it was a fight between two religious gurus – Narayan Puri of BJP and Shale Mohammad Sindhi of Congress – on the Pokaran seat in western Rajasthan.
Puri emerged victorious with a margin of 35,427 votes.
“People have rejected the appeasement policy of the Gehlot government. I think people have voted for nationalism. Also, the results depict people’s faith in the leadership of Modi ji,” Puri said.
Mahant Baba Balaknath, who was also seen as chief ministerial candidate, won Tijara seat. He defeated Congress candidate Imran Khan with a margin of 6,173 votes.
However, the most interesting and thrilling victory was of Balmukund Acharya from the Hawa Mahal seat. Congress candidate RR Tiwari was leading from till the 18th round and he was told by his supporters to reach the counting centre to get his victory certificate. On the way, Tiwari was told that he was defeated with a margin of 974 votes.
