NEW DELHI: India is one of the most powerful countries and its defence forces and system are backed by a strong government, said Union minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday, the last day of his two-day tour of Ladakh, where he interacted with Army personnel and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the local residents of Chumur area near India-China border.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi India is one of the most powerful countries in the world. The stronger forces are backed by this stronger government,” the information and broadcasting minister said during an interaction with the ITBP at Karzok village, some 211 km from Leh.
Praising the courage of the forces performing their duties at a height of 15,000 feet, braving the challenges of nature, the minister said, “It is the responsibility of one and every citizen to work for the betterment of the country in their respective roles.”
Thakur added earlier the country solely relied on imports but with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, over 400 defence items are being manufactured locally.
