Jaipur: A day after arresting 45-year-old Bhagchand for allegedly facilitating Pakistani agencies in providing Indian SIM cards, the intelligence wing on Monday said the local sources of the accused would soon be found and arrested.
Since his arrest almost a week after the intelligence wing had arrested Narayan Lal Gadri, the authorities said the possibility of more persons in this spying ring can’t be ruled out. It was found in the investigation that the accused had also got some money transferred to his account in lieu of sharing sensitive information and sending SIM cards to Pakistani handlers.
On Sunday, intelligence wing had arrested Chand from New Delhi where he was living for a long time after getting Indian citizenship.
“Bhagchand was born in Pakistan and came to India with his family on a tourist visa in 1998. He started living in Delhi and in 2016 he got Indian citizenship and started working as a taxi driver. Lal, who was arrested by our team on August 14, had provided some SIM cards to Bhagchand. Later, Bhagchand activated the number and downloaded some applications on the directions of Pakistani handlers and shared the OTPs as sought by the handlers. He is equally part of the nexus,” said S Sengathir, additional director general, security.
It was found that these numbers were used by Pakistani handlers to operate social media accounts. “That was purposely done by Pakistani agencies as even if these social media accounts would be scrutinized, the mobile number would be found Indian,” he added. Sengathir said his bank accounts, UPI IDs and mobile phones would be scanned properly to investigate the money trail in this case. “He was constantly in touch with Pakistani handlers and had got some SIM cards from Lal. He had also got a phone from Delhi,” he added.
