Skin Cancer: Reaching This Hosp Taxing For Patients | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Tears welled up in the eyes of 60-year-old Ram Kishore Bairwa as he spoke, gasping for breath due to his chronic respiratory illness. He told of the difficulties he faced in travelling to RUHS Hospital.
“We left our village (in Chaksu tehsil of Jaipur) at 7am. The bus dropped us far from this hospital. Since there is no public transport available to reach here, we had to hire an autorickshaw,” said Bairwa, who was accompanied by his wife Ram Pyari and son Jitendra Bairwa, who is suffering from a psychiatric illness. It was for Jitendra’s treatment that the couple had come to RUHS Hospital.
While Ram Kishore and his son cannot work due to their diseases, Ram Pyari works as a daily-wage labourer. “The autorickshaw fare was too high for us. The government should make public transport available for people to come here,” said Bairwa. He was grateful that he got medicines from the hospital for his son.
Similar was the situation with Keli Bai, 45, who came for treatment of injuries she sustained in an accident. “My husband arranged a bike for me to reach the hospital. There is no public transport connecting India Gate with this hospital,” she said, full of indignation.
Even though RUHS Hospital is currently not running in full capacity, patients come here from several districts of the state. While almost all government-run hospitals in the city are well connected by public transport. Non-availability of public transport makes it difficult for patients to reach RUHS Hospital located at Pratap Nagar, a little away from the city centre.
Since government buses do not pass through this hospital, patients have to hire a taxi from India Gate or come by their own vehicles.
