Jaghina’s ‘hardcore Criminal’ Status Shrouded In Mystery | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Even as an inquiry is currently underway to determine the lapses that resulted in the murder of gangster Kuldeep Jaghina in police custody inside a roadways bus, the Bharatpur police asserted that it had informed the prison authorities about the undertrial’s classification as a hardcore criminal.
This runs contary to claims made by top officials of Jaipur police that jail authorties did not mark Jaghina as a hardcore criminal.
The Rajasthan police on Thursday admitted that there were lapses in the transportation Jaghina and ordered an enquiry to look in the lapses and contary claims by different agencies. Inspector general of police (IGP), crime, Prafful Kumar has been sent to Bharatpur to look into the matter.
Sources said that Kumar has been tasked to examine the entire transportation process. Jaghina was shot dead by assialints when Jaipur police was ferrying him to Bharatpur for a court visit in a roadways bus on Wednesday.
The responsibility of moving Jaghina fell upon the Jaipur police as he was being held at the Jaipur central jail. “We receive a list from the prison authorties. They did not mention that Jaghina was a hardcore, otherwise we would have arranged special vehicles,” said a Jaipur police official.
On the other hand, a senior official of Bharatpur police on the condition of anonimity said that the prison authorties were informed of the Jaghina’s status. “We have all the documents to prove that we had kept jail authorities abreast of security threats related to Jaghina,” the official said.
The current assumption is that there may have been a lack of coordination among the prison authorities, Jaipur police, and Bharatpur police.
Following the notorious escape of slain gangster Anandpal Singh from a police escort in 2015, the Rajasthan police implemented standardized operating procedures (SOPs) regarding the transportation of hardcore criminals. These SOPs mandated that district police use special prison vehicles equipped with wireless CCTVs to transport criminals from one district to another for court hearings.
Although these SOPs are enforced specifically for the transportation of hardcore criminals, there is a lack of clear instructions regarding the procedures to be followed for other criminals during routine court visits.
