JAIPUR: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has invited tenders for the construction of the city’s first cable-stayed bridge on JLN Marg. The last date to submit tenders will be September 12 and JDA plans to initiate the project work in October.
The project will reduce traffic congestion at OTS Junction. As per the design, the length of the project is expected to be 440 metre. The JDA also plans to construct the rotaries at Jhalana road and in front of Jaipur Dairy. The total project cost for all the bridges has been estimated at Rs 150 crore.
An official said, “An underground passage will also be constructed at all the four ends of the intersection for pedestrians. Similarly, an art gallery will also be developed in one of the underground passages. The theme of the gallery will be historical events of Jaipur,”
Talking about the durability of the structure, an official said, “The lifespan of these structures is also claimed to be higher than regular bridges as these structures are capable of handling extreme traffic-jam situations and can withstand heavy rains, winds and storms. The bridge will be built at the OTS intersection for traffic going from Malviya Nagar Railway overbridge towards Gandhi Circle on JLN Marg.”
Under the signal-free project at B2B bypass, the JDA has also planned to construct three subways at Jawahar Circle on JLN Marg. The first subway has been constructed between state hanger road and airport terminal- 2. The civic body has started the construction at the site.
Following this, the construction of two underpasses at opposite ends will begin. An official said, “As pedestrians can reach Jawahar Circle without crossing the road, accidents in the area will be reduced. JDA also plans to build 30 shops in the three subways. Each subway will have ten shops.”
