Jaisalmer admn hands over 40 bighas land to Pak-Hindus | Jaipur News

JAISALMER: After facing flak for evicting Pakistan-displaced Hindus from their makeshift homes in Amarsagar area, the Jaisalmer district administration has handed over a patch of land measuring 40 bighas in Moolsagar, about 5km from the district headquarters, to the community for resettlement.
On Monday evening, the migrant Hindus offered traditional prayers at the land and started levelling it with help of a JCB. The urban improvement trust (UIT) assured to soon arrange water and electricity supply. Officials said that about 200 families can reside on this land.
The migrant Hindus thanked district collector Tina Dabi for the land. Their community leader, Seemant Lok Sangathan president Hindu Singh Sodha, on Tuesday visited the place and said that it was probably for the first time that the UIT had given land for rehabilitation of the displaced Hindus.
On May 16, the district administration along with UIT officials had evicted the migrant Hindus from land belonging to the UIT in Amarsagar area, with district collector Tina Dabi claiming that new encroachments had also been made on the catchment area of the Amarsagar lake. Later, as the displaced Hindus staged a dharna outside the collectorate and BJP leaders condemned the “atrocity” on Hindu brethren, Dabi formed a committee to identify land for the community’s resettlement within 7 days.
Dabi said that as of now, four families who were removed from Amarsagar have been given land at Moolsagar and the committee will further give a list to the district administration of which families are on long-term visa and which have obtained citizenship. Dabi said that those who have citizenship will be allotted lease deed for the land.
Dabi said that the place which has been identified is near a Bhil basti of Pak-displaced Hindus and from there water and electricity lines will be extended to the new plot.
UIT secretary Jagdish Ashiya said that the plan is to rehabilitate 250 families on the 40 bighas of land in Moolsagar. He said that those who have not received citizenship will also be allowed to stay and efforts will be made to secure them citizenship. “The moment they get citizenship, they will be given the lease deed. At present, 50 families can make their houses at this place,” Ashiya said.
