Karauli murder: Victim’s family, BJP netas demand action against police | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: A day after the body of a 20-year-old Dalit girl was recovered from a well at a village in Karauli district, her family and BJP MPs staged a dharna and refused to cremate the body, demanding compensation and action against cops on Friday.
Earlier, conceding to a demand made by the family, the police got a second autopsy of the body done and videographed it. “In the first autopsy report, a gunshot injury was found on her body. Since it was not videographed, a demand was made for a second autopsy. The second autopsy too has confirmed the gunshot injury on her body,” Karauli SP Mamta Gupta told TOI. A separate medical board did the second autopsy, she said.
The deceased girl’s family, supported by BJP MPs Kirori Lal Meena, Ranjeeta Koli and Diya Kumari, however, said the body will not be cremated until the police suspended a head constable and another constable who had initially booked the case as normal death. Meena and the victim’s family have been sitting on a dharna since Thursday night outside the hospital. They have also demanded a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the kin.
The victim, a resident of Mohanpura of the Todabhim area, was allegedly kidnapped, raped and attacked with acid before being murdered. Her body was found in a well on Thursday. “Meri beti ke katyaro ko phansi do (Give capital punishment to the killers of my daughter),” said the mother of the girl, while speaking to TOI.
Congress leader and former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot tweeted, “This is a sensitive case, the police and legal system should investigate the matter properly, ensure justice to the family and give strong punishment to the culprits.”
5 teams to probe Karauli crime
Police have formed five teams to investigate the crime. After a dilly-dallying initially, they have lodged a case of kidnapping, gangrape and murder. “Our teams are working on it. We have strong leads. Those responsible for the act will be arrested soon,” SP Mamta said.
A BJP women’s delegation, including Diya Kumari, Ranjeeta Koli and Suman Sharma, ex-chairperson state woman commission, met the girl’s mother. “In this case, if the police had intervened on time, the girl could have been saved. We want action against the negligent policemen and immediate arrests of culprits. We also met DGP Umesh Mishra and urged him to take action against the policemen for their irresponsible and negligent approach,” Kumari said.
Meena criticised the police approach to the whole incident. “The mother of the girl had gone to the police station on July 12 and told them about the kidnapping. The police did not pay heed to it. After we protested, a case under sections 363, 365, 376-D, 326-A and 302 of the IPC was lodged at the Balghat police station. We want strong action against a head constable and another constable who refused to lodge an FIR but also threatened the family of the girl that they would be put behind the bars,” Meena said. The administration has also not agreed on the compensation, he said.
