Playing Card: Cm To Open Bldg For Lawmakers On Sat, But Mlas Not Keen To Shift | Jaipur News

The Rajasthan Housing Board (RHB) had issued a release on Wednesday morning stating that the chief minister Ashok Gehlot would inaugurate the project on August 12 at 6pm. However, a section of RHB officials mentioned that they had received feedback from the MLAs of both the ruling and opposition parties. Most of them are not keen on shifting to this complex any time before the election.
“There are several MLAs in the state who don’t stay in government accommodation and get a handsome amount as housing allowance. If they shift the allowance would stop. So, MLAs are not interested in losing the allowance for the next few months. As it is, from September or October they would start spending time at their home districts campaigning for elections,” an official added.
On July 27, 2019 chief minister Ashok Gehlot announced this project at the Vidhan Sabha and the cabinet sub-committee had approved the project on August 11, 2021.
Although the state has 199 assembly constituencies and an equal number of MLAs there would be only 160 flats in this compound.
“There are separate accommodations for ministers in Civil Lines and at a few other localities of the city. The local MLAs generally prefer to stay in their own residences, instead of government accommodations. So, this would suffice,” said a RHB official.
He added, “If we had to add more flats, we had to increase the height of the buildings. In that case, the height of these buildings would have crossed the main dome of the assembly house and blocked its view.”
The project comprises 160 furnished 4-BHK flats, each measuring 4,375 square feet.
