Investment: Investments by PE-VC halve YoY in Sept quarter

CHENNAI: Private Equity-Venture Capital (PE-VC) funds invested $6 billion across 139 deals in India during the quarter ended September 2023 – almost half of the preceding quarter and a 15% decline compared to the September 2022 quarter. The quarter ended June 2023 saw $11.7 billion being invested by PE-VC firms across 202 deals, while around $7 billion worth PE-VC investments were clocked in September 2022, as per data from research firm Venture Intelligence.
September alone clocked just 47 deals worth around $1.7 billion. In an indication of the ongoing funding winter, deal activity saw a steep 57% fall in June-September as the same period last year saw 327 deals. With this, the PE-VC investment figures for the first nine months of 2023 stand at $23.6 billion (across 542 deals) – 38% lower compared to the same period in 2022. The June-September period this year witnessed 16 mega deals.
