The students’ cell also aims at digging into and analysing depression, drug, suicidal tendencies and reasons for database to provide substantial remedy of the ‘psychological disorder’ that has assumed large threat to flourishing economy of Kota city.

“SOP for the students in coaching institutes, hostels, PGs and apartments has been formulated and IG Kota has approved the same after discussion with stakeholders (coaching institutes, hostels, PGs, mess) and it is going to be launched very soon,” said incharge of the students’ cell ASP Chandrasheel Thakur.
For smooth functioning and implementation of SOP, the city police has formed students’ cell team comprising an additional superintendent of police (incharge of the team), 3 inspector/sub inspector/ assistant sub inspector, 6 constables including female cops, who will call on students at coaching centres, hostels, PGs daily for at least two hours, hold friendly, formal interaction with them without any air of inquiry, judgment and in course of interaction try to identify students with abnormal, uncommon attributes in behaviour. Besides, incharge of the cell will also visit students thrice a week and hold interactions with students.
A students’ cell helpline with mobile number 9530442778 will also be operative round the clock, wherein students can call for help, share his or her concern and trouble.
Under the SOP, coaching institutes are required to depute a liaison officer to facilitate harmony and consistency among students and on noticing any unusual tendency, to inform the cell of the same for timely preventive and remedial measures. Besides indulgence in drug or love affairs, the students spending maximum time on phone and social media will also be traced in coordination with hostel warden, staff and mess and will be contacted upon for interaction and formal counselling.
The information and findings of interaction with students will regularly be shared with concerned higher authorities. For a stress free environment, the students’ cell will also organise events like spot Nukkad Natak, dance, painting and other recreational activities with participation of the students so that their individual talents can be encouraged.
Claiming that the police can play the role of an expert psychologist, ASP Thakur said efforts would be taken to dig into and diagnose formally inherent tendencies and disorders of the students and accordingly they would be treated and counselled in a friendly manner without any sense of imposition or force.
