Foreign Scholarship: Raj Raises Annual Income Bar Above ₹8l | Jaipur News

Jaipur: The state government has revised the guidelines of Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship for Academic Excellence 2021 including students from families whose annual income is above Rs 8 lakh. The revised guidelines issued on June 15 and uploaded on June 17 on the higher education portal are applicable to all courses including humanities. Earlier, it was restricted to a select few courses in the first guidelines issued on October 5, 2021.
The scheme offers 100% tuition fee assistance to students who received admission offers from the first 150 universities listed by QS World Ranking. It is applicable at both graduate and postgraduate levels. Even those who would like to pursue PhD are included to the scheme. Other than the income criteria, the candidate has to be domicile of the state and age should not be more than 35.
The candidates can apply in three categories based on their family’s annual income – upto Rs 8 lakh, between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 25 lakh and Rs 25 lakh and above.
This is the first-of-a-kind scheme introduced by the state government in 2021 to provide higher education abroad to state domicile students. The scheme was effective from December 2021. The applications were uploaded in December 2021 and 18 students were selected who started their academic session in September 2021.
The scheme allows 15 students to pursue BE, BTech, MBBS, BDS, etc, which will be given to the top-25 universities in QS Ranking. An official said the number of these courses have been restricted to 18 for a reason that the country has high-quality institutes imparting engineering and medical.
Rough estimates say that those in the first category of up to 8 lakh can get the scholarship up to Rs 1 crore. Suchi Tyagi, commissioner of college education, said admissions will be done strictly based on merit.
“Preference will be given to the first category students whose family’s annual income is under Rs 8 lakh. The selection process will also consider the ranking of the institute, scores in the board classes and income criteria,” said the document signed by the Suchi Tyagi, commissioner of College Education.
